CPU/GPU Synchro settings of TrackMania 2 Canyon
I have just now got this game called "TrackMania 2 Canyon" and i have been wandering through its setting and now i have came across advanced setting and i wanted to know what are these in the advanced setting,I mean what does they do?. The available options i have seen hear are None, Immediate,1 frame, 2 frames, 3 frames,so i just wanted to know that which would be the best settings for both CPU and gpu?. Any suggestion regarding this will be highly appreciated.

As far as i know Using the immediate gpu/cpu synchro the game will probably wait until the gpu finishes each frame before starting another and later the gpu work will not be performed in same the time as that of CPU due to the latency and then the global performance will be lost.Where as With 1 frame the CPU and gpu perform more in parallel because of which the global performance is win.I dont have much idea about the other of them.Hope detail regarding the immediate and 1 frame was help full.

I will like to inform you that the more frames we allow the driver to "cache"there are more chances of getting lag from time to time,as far as my knowledge the DirectX default for maximum no of the frame cache is to be "3" and i have heard recently that the "Amd/NVidia drivers" have been found to be OK with 1 frame by now and probably this is the reason why they have kept it default but on some other devices/drivers even the 1 frame are resulting in small lags and please keep this in mind that the blocking the cpu/gpu parallelism in this might cut some SLi/CrossFire benefit so in order to avoid this we will have to buffer it at least as many frames as GPUs.I hope that the bugs will get out no matter which frame you use.

And far as the none setting is concerned than i will like to share that the "None" is usually used to disable any gpu/cpu synchro and after this only the driver will be able to limit the parallelism/latency which is usually of 3 frames and In this setting you will be having the maximum no of global performance but i have also heard that this the mode is more prone to latency issues because of which you might feel that the the car is pretty heavy as you will find a difference between the actual pressing of the key and the turning of the car. They are also more prone to small lag issues.

Yes 1 frame basically deals with the cpu/gpu synch where as the Triple Buffer deals with display synch both the Gpu/Cpu synchro and the Display synchros are 2 different things but they do interact with each other and they appear to be close as well. Here when you enable the Display synchro you wont get gpu/cpu's immediate synchro and this is because the 2 synchros create two possible cpu stall which are waiting for both the display vsync and ther gpu which will end the frame.Later if you enable the display synchro make sure that you select at least 1 cpu/gpu frame or you select none.

And don't forget that the Triple buffering needs a special DirectX device creation which is unfortunately not yet available in the Mania Planet. The Triple buffer really has meaning only when the display synch is used but it will avoid the artifacts of fps jumps for a instance of 30 to 60 seconds but it will also increase the frame latency as well.

What i have herd from my sources is that in Nvidia control panel we can very well set max per-rendered frames for your CPU before they go to GPU and by default it is 3 but If you set it to 1 then the fps will increase even though you will face some skipped frames issue but by increasing the value the fps will decrease and you will not face frame skipping and can get better and more fluid gameplay. Here both high and low values perform differently in different situations but the recommended is 2-3 and If you don't believe of what i have said you can very well Google it out.
