Cannot access internet due to MAC address mismatch
Hello there,I have a cablenet connection on my PC which is provided by Pacenet.Recently due to some reason i had to change my NIC. After replacing the NIC I am not able to access the Internet. The dialer which I use to connect to Internet shows an error "MAC address mismatch".
what can be the possible reason for this problem....? Is my new NIC faulty..?

Re: Cannot access internet due to MAC address mismatch
No your NIC is not faulty. Some ISP keep track of the IP address alongwith the MAC addresses of the customer so as to restrict the user to access the internet through only 1 pc. As you have changed the NIC your MAC address has changed and that is why the dialer is showing the message of "MAC address mismatch".

Re: Cannot access internet due to MAC address mismatch
As you are getting the error as MAC address mismatch it may be because of the ISP is keeping track of your MAC address. So you can either clone the MAC address of the Old NIC into the New NIC or you can call up your ISP and tell them that you have changed your NIC and give your new MAC address. For getting the correct procedure for Cloning the MAC address you can search for it on the Internet.

Re: Cannot access internet due to MAC address mismatch
If you are using Windows XP you can clone the MAC address as follows.Goto Start menu--settings--network connection--right click on Local Area Network--Properties. Here you will see the name of the NIC card and a Configure button. Click on the configure button and go to Advanced tab and highlight the Network address. Now you can enter the MAC address in the blank tab besides it.After entering the MAC address save the settings. LAN will be disabled for sometime and will be enabled automatically. After this try and connect to Internet. It should work.
